But why? Three things stand out to me.
First, many of these ETFs are empty shells. A lot of them aren’t physically backed by XRP; instead, they trade in futures or derivatives. The $1.67 billion isn’t flowing directly into the market or buying real tokens. It’s like ordering a steak in a restaurant, only to end up with a photo of it— the price of the actual meat on the shelf doesn’t budge.
Second, the endless regulatory uncertainty. Yes, Ripple won its legal battle against the SEC, but it’s not a clean acquittal—more like a temporary reprieve. Appeals loom, and as long as that Sword of Damocles hangs over the project, many investors remain hesitant. Even when they invest via ETFs, they keep one foot out the door, ready to b
olt at any moment.
And third, XRP has an identity crisis. Bitcoin is digital gold; Ethereum is the smart contract platform. So, what is XRP? A payments network? Sure, but stablecoins and Lightning are giving it a run for its money, and its original vision as a bridge currency now feels a bit outdated. Burning 1.11 billion tokens (less than 1% of supply) isn’t enough to change that as long as network usage doesn’t grow.
I still remember when XRP was trading at $3–$4 and everyone thought it would hit $10 soon. Today, that feels like a different era. The community got used to quick gains, and if a project doesn’t deliver, capital moves on. XRP has strong partners and proven tech, but that’s not enough if the market has already moved on.
At the end of the day, money doesn’t always equal a price explosion. The ETF inflows are a strong sign of institutional interest, but as long as the regulatory clouds don’t lift and XRP doesn’t redefine its role, the price will keep lagging behind. If you’re investing here, you’d better think long-term—or accept that sometimes, the market just goes its own way.
