The whales are getting hungry – and it’s having consequences
On-chain data from Santiment paints a clear picture: the largest HOT wallets are filling up like never before. One address, ending in “…d6c5,” has alone accumulated over 50 million HOT in just the past week. And this isn’t an isolated case – the top 100 wallets now hold roughly 40% of the total HOT supply. A figure that has often enough led to wild price swings in the past.
While some see this as a sign of an impending rally, others are rightfully warning: “If these whales even sell off a portion of their holdings, the market could quickly stumble,” says crypto analyst Max Berger, whom I met at a panel in Berlin a few days ago. “The liquidity simply isn’t there, and if large volumes hit the market at once, it will quickly carve deep holes in the price.”
Holo at a crossroads: Upward – or into the abyss?
Holo, the token behind the decentralized hosting network, has been on a tear in recent months. From a meager $0.001 in 2020 to over $0.005 – a gain of over 400%. No wonder investors are getting nervous. The performance has been too strong to avoid skepticism.
But CoinGecko sees room for more: “Holo benefits from growing demand for decentralized
hosting solutions,” an analyst from the platform told me over coffee in a Berlin co-working space. “If the network continues to expand, the token could really pick up steam in the long run.”
Still, caution is advised. Beyond whale risks, broader market trends are also weighing on the price. If Bitcoin slips back into one of its typical correction phases, Holo, as a smaller altcoin, would almost certainly get dragged down with it.
Who’s still buying – and at what price?
The big question remains: Who steps in when the whales start emptying their bags? Institutional investors and big fish are building their positions – but who will be left to buy if the whales suddenly want to sell everything? Small retail investors already appear to be heavily invested. So if the big players start reducing their holdings, there won’t be much demand left to support the price.
Lars Müller, an analyst I know from the Munich scene, warns of a classic “sell the news” effect: “The market is overbought, and even good news wouldn’t save the price. Demand has simply been exhausted.”
What’s next for Holo?
The coming weeks will show which way the wind blows. Will the whales hold their tokens – or even buy more? Then a new rally could be on the horizon. But if they start liquidating their positions, a steep crash could follow.
Investors should now pay close attention to on-chain data. A sudden drop in whale holdings would be a clear warning signal. Meanwhile, further accumulation by whales could strengthen confidence in the token.
One thing is certain: In the crypto world, it’s often just a few big players who decide the price action. And with Holo, that’s especially evident right now. So: keep your eyes open and take a deep breath – it could get wild!
