Solana Burns Millions of SOL – How Demand Outpaces Supply📈 Solana (SOL) View live price
I’ll admit it: When I first heard about Solana’s new burn mechanism, I was skeptical. “Burning tokens? That sounds like waste at first glance,” I thought. But the more I dug into it, the clearer it became: Something revolutionary is happening here. Something that’s pushing Solana forward—technologically, yes, but economically, too.
How SOL Becomes a Value Driver
Imagine buying a car—only for part of the gas to be destroyed instead of used. Sounds crazy? With Solana, it’s real—but with tokens instead of gasoline. Every transaction on the blockchain incurs a fee, part of which goes into a burn pool where SOL tokens are permanently removed from circulation.
And it’s happening at an astonishing pace: In just the last 30 days, 18.9 million SOL were burned—that’s hundreds of millions of euros at current prices. To put it in perspective, that’s roughly the entire circulating supply of some smaller cryptocurrencies. So why is Solana doing this?
Because it’s smart. Solana operates on a Proof-of-Stake (PoS) model where some transaction fees go to validators, while another portion is irrevocably destroyed. It’s reminiscent of Ethereum’s EIP-1559 upgrade—but Solana’s mechanism is even more tightly linked to network activity.
Record Activity Fuels the Burn
May 2024 was a month for the history books in Solana’s story. Over 1.5 million transactions per second—a record that proves just how scalable the network truly is. But this isn’t just for show. Every one of those transactions drives more SOL to be burned.
And why does that matter? Because:
- Less supply, more demand, higher price? When more tokens are removed than created, SOL becomes scarcer—and scarcity usually pushes prices up.
- Inflation, begone? Solana originally had an

annual inflation rate of 6–7%. The burn mechanism counteracts that—and in the best case, could even make the network deflationary.
Anatoly Yakovenko, Solana’s co-founder, calls it an “economic combustion engine.” A brilliant blend of demand-side economics and supply control that could make SOL far more attractive over the long term.
Criticism and Challenges
But as with any bold new idea, there are skeptics. Some analysts question whether the burn model alone can sustain Solana’s growth long-term. After all, token price is also driven by market sentiment, regulation, and competition—including Ethereum, which recently adopted similar mechanisms.
Then there’s the ongoing criticism of centralization. Solana has faced past network outages linked to over-reliance on a small set of validators. While improvements have been made, the reputation lingers.
Outlook: Where Is SOL Headed?
One thing is clear: Solana is more than just a fast blockchain for DeFi and NFTs. With its burn mechanism, it’s showing the world it can also build a sustainable economic model.
For investors, this could be a strong signal: If demand for Solana services keeps rising while supply shrinks, scarcity-driven price surges could follow. At the same time, we’ll have to watch whether the network can maintain its scalability and stability as it grows.
One thing is certain: By burning large amounts of SOL, Solana has unlocked a powerful new lever for economic strength. It’s an exciting experiment—one with potentially high returns. Investing in SOL now means betting not just on technology, but on a dynamic monetary policy model that’s still rare in the industry.
And who knows? Solana might become a blueprint for other blockchains. I’ll be watching—and you?
