Institutional investors have already entered the crypto space. Hedge funds, asset managers, even some banks—all are tapping into the opportunities digital assets offer. But when it comes to private individuals, the support is thin. Where should one even start? Which blockchain is secure? Who can explain it all without leaving you drowning in half-understood jargon?
The problem isn’t just the lack of expertise; it’s also the reluctance of many traditional advisors. Some don’t grasp the subject matter, others are wary of regulatory gray areas. So too many investors are left to make decisions alone—or worse, never even take the plunge. Neither outcome is ideal.
But change is happening. More financial service providers realize they can’t simply look the other way. Some banks are
training their advisors, fintechs are developing new tools, and specialized crypto consultants are emerging. Even robo-advisors are slowly integrating crypto into their portfolios—not perfectly, certainly, but it’s a start.
Of course, hurdles remain. In Germany, for example, crypto consulting is tightly regulated. Only licensed professionals can actively advise on it, and even then, they must stay constantly updated to avoid falling behind. It’s demanding, but necessary.
For investors, this means staying informed and carefully vetting whom they trust with their money. Certifications like the Certified Bitcoin Professional (CBP) or the Blockchain Council can help identify reputable advisors. And yes, diversification remains key—here as elsewhere. Don’t put all your chips on one asset, crypto or otherwise.
The consulting gap is real, but it’s closing. Those willing to educate themselves and seek the right partners can seize the opportunities of digital assets without getting lost in murky waters. The industry is still in its early stages, but the path toward a more professional future is already underway. And that’s still progress, isn’t it?
