Circle Announces 95-Day Sunset for Legacy USDC Bridge Routes
It’s one of those uncomfortable but necessary announcements that unfortunately keeps coming up in the crypto world: Circle, the issuer of USDC, is ending the legacy bridge routes for the older version of the stablecoin. The cutoff date is December 1, 2023—after that, USDC tokens sent via the legacy routes will no longer be transferable. At least there’s a 95-day grace period, but time is running out.
Why is Circle doing this? Simply put, the legacy version of USDC (V1) is no longer keeping up with modern standards. It relies on outdated smart contract architectures, while the new version (V2) offers improved security, faster transactions, and better decentralization. Most cross-chain routes have already been migrated, but networks like Noble and Sui still lag behind, relying exclusively on the legacy version.
Who needs to act now?
- DeFi projects holding or using USDC V1 as collateral or for liquidity.
- Exchanges and wallet providers still operating legacy bridges.
- dApp developers building on the old version.
- Individual users with USDC V1 stuck in wallets or on exchanges that haven’t migrated.

it for the legacy version will be gradually reduced. Anyone still holding old USDC tokens should act quickly to swap them or move them to a platform that already supports V2.
The new bridges are already live
The good news? The new USDC V2 cross-chain bridge is already active for most major networks, including Ethereum, Solana, and Polygon. Migrating now ensures access to technical improvements and avoids the risk of assets becoming unusable after December 1.
Circle strongly advises against delaying migration. Smaller ecosystems like Noble or Sui may face tighter constraints, and those who wait risk losing access to their USDC tokens after the deadline.
A step toward the future
Phasing out legacy bridges isn’t a disaster—it’s a logical evolution. The USDC becomes not only safer and more efficient but also better integrated into the expanding blockchain ecosystem. However, developers and businesses have little time left—the 95-day window is ticking away.
For those unsure how to proceed, Circle and supported exchanges provide guides and support on their official channels. The message is clear: act before it’s too late. The clock is ticking.
