The crypto industry is entering the new year with mixed feelings—and no wonder, given the conflicting voices in the space. While some are already heralding new all-time highs, Bitget CEO Gracy Chen remains refreshingly sober in her assessment. In an exclusive interview with a leading crypto outlet, she shared her outlook on Bitcoin (BTC) for the coming months, making it clear that she doesn’t expect any major rallies this time around.
Chen anticipates Bitcoin will remain trapped in a sideways trend between $40,000 and $60,000 through the end of the year. While this might sound unexciting, it does suggest a more stable foundation compared to the wild price swings of the past. And why is that? Well, the global economy has simply become too unpredictable. Chen points to ongoing uncertainties in global economic policy, inflation concerns, and the Federal Reserve’s interest rate decisions—all factors that will continue to play a significant role in 2024.
“The macroeconomic uncertainty remains just too high,” she admits with a slight sigh. “Bitcoin does have huge long-term potential as digital gold, but in the short term, volatility will largely be driven by these external factors.” Institutional and retail investors would do well to brace themselves—or at least remain patient. “We’re entering a phase of consolidation where Bitcoin is unlikely to experience the extreme highs and lows of the past.”
Then there’s the much-debated idea of the U.S. government adopting Bitcoin as a reserve asset. Some enthusiasts have already imagined this as a massive price catalyst, but Chen remains skeptical. “It’s really very unlikely that the U.S. will purchase large amounts of Bitcoin

over the next two years,” she says. “The political and regulatory hurdles are simply too high, and bureaucracy doesn’t operate at the speed of light.” Even if it were to happen someday—which Chen believes is possible but not imminent—it would likely take years or even decades.
From a technological standpoint, there are certainly advancements like the Lightning Network, which is improving Bitcoin’s utility for payments. However, Chen also warns: “Scalability remains a challenge, especially as adoption grows.” And then there’s the next halving event in April 2024—a milestone that has historically led to price surges. But Chen takes a more measured view: “Markets are efficient. The effects of the halving are probably already priced in long before the actual event.”
Despite her caution, she remains optimistic about Bitcoin’s long-term potential. “Even if the next few months are somewhat sluggish, I’m firmly convinced that Bitcoin will reach new all-time highs in the long run,” she emphasizes. “It has established itself as a robust store of value and will play a crucial role in the global financial system.”
Her advice to investors? Don’t chase short-term trends—think long term instead. “Anyone investing in Bitcoin should do so with a clear strategy and not be swayed by every market upheaval.” Those hoping for quick profits might be disappointed.
The coming months will reveal whether Bitcoin can demonstrate its resilience or if macroeconomic uncertainties will prolong its consolidation phase. One thing is certain: The debate over Bitcoin’s future—and that of the entire crypto industry—will continue to dominate 2024. And I, for one, am eager to see how the story unfolds.
