Only “Sarah” isn’t a real person. She’s an AI designed to ensnare scammers, and she’s so convincing that even seasoned con artists start second-guessing their approach.
How does it work? Simple: the AI victims behave like naive users who fall for contact requests or phishing messages. They willingly share personal information, engage in conversation, and log every interaction. The most brilliant twist? Apate even measures how furious the scammers get. Yes, you read that right. One key performance indicator is the number of expletives (“F-bombs”) thrown by scammers when the AI refuses to quit. The more rage, the better the trap works – and the more time and energy scammers waste.
Why is this necessary? Because the fraud market is exploding.
