"Chinese AI models have made massive leaps in recent years," Calle notes. "Especially when it comes to processing structured data like programming code." Though Kimi K3 was primarily trained for general language tasks, it turns out to be exceptionally powerful in code analysis, boasting over 100 billion parameters.
A concrete example: The red team has already used Kimi K3 to uncover several potential security flaws in Bitcoin Core, including issues with signature validation and possible attack vectors on consensus rules. "Without AI, we likely wouldn’t have found
these problems until much later—if ever," Calle says.
Politics, Culture, and Technology: Can They Really Work Together?
Now you might be wondering: But China? A country with strict internet censorship and state-controlled tech—can we really trust them? Calle takes a pragmatic view: "We’re only using the AI as a tool. The final decisions about security updates still lie with us. The AI is an assistant here, not a replacement for human expertise."
Technically, there are indeed hurdles. Kimi K3 wasn’t specifically trained for programming languages like C++ or Python, which are used in Bitcoin’s code. But as Calle explains: "The fundamentals are solid. The AI understands code structure well enough to detect patterns that indicate vulnerabilities."
The Future: Will AI Become the New Standard in Blockchain Security?
I believe this collaboration could mark a real turning point. Bitcoin has long been considered "unhackable," but new attack vectors—like sidechain exploits or vulnerabilities in Bitcoin-based DeFi protocols—show that constant vigilance is essential.
Calle is convinced AI will soon become a core part of blockchain security strategies. "The question isn’t whether we’ll use AI—it’s how quickly we can implement it," he says. "The sooner we identify potential issues, the faster we can fix them."
Of course, skeptics argue that automation might overshadow human expertise. "AI is a powerful tool, but it doesn’t replace experienced developers," Calle emphasizes. "It helps us work faster and more thoroughly—that’s the real advantage."
